Company

1. What is Faculte's vision and mission?

Faculte was founded in 2007 with the simple mission of helping people and organizations share and sell knowledge online. We wanted to create an easy way for people to turn their content and knowledge into engaging online rich-media experiences and to facilitate a fair and convenient model to enable them to monetize those experiences. For professionals, educators and businesses, Faculte offers a rich media communications platform to create, distribute, manage and monetize on-demand and live broadcasts to private and public audiences.

2. What's with the name?

The Middle English Dictionary's top two definitions of "Faculte" are: 1. The power, ability, facility, opportunity, possibility to do something 2. A field of knowledge or experience. We believe that the name "Faculte" captures in one word, the essence of our entire mission statement wherein our goal is to help people and organizations share and sell knowledge online. Cool huh, to find one word that captures our entire mission and vision?

1. Do I need to install any software to use Faculte?

Faculte requires no software to be downloaded or installed. All that you require is your browser and the latest Adobe Flash Player plugin, which you can get here for free. All files and data created reside on secure Faculte servers.

2. What browsers does it work on?

We have tested it on the most popular web browsers: Internet Explorer (versions 6, 7 and 8), Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari and Google Chrome on Windows XP, Windows Vista and the Mac. If there are additional browsers or operating systems that are critical to your needs, let us know!

3. What is My Desk?

When you log into your account at Faculte, My Desk is the location where all of your information is available. Here you will be able to manage your profile, view broadcasts to which you have access, view paid broadcasts that you have purchased as well as manage files and images that you have uploaded for use in making broadcasts.

4. What is the Broadcast Studio?

Broadcast Studio is the product you can use to make broadcasts. To access Broadcast Studio, log into your account on faculte.com and simply click on "Create a Broadcast" from the Home page of MyDesk. Its that simple!

5. What is a broadcast?

A broadcast is the rich content you create using Broadcast studio by mixing documents, presentations, pictures, videos and web pages seamlessly with your narration. We call this a broadcast since you can share it anywhere through email or embed it in a blog or web page.

6. Are there any limits on creating broadcasts?

Broadcasts can be up to 1 hour in length - which we believe is plenty long unless you are planning a career in movie making.

7. How do I share a broadcast?

Once you make a broadcast, you have several options. You can send the broadcast as a link through email. Or you can copy the URL for the broadcast (each broadcast gets its own URL) and use that within documents, emails or web pages. Or you can copy the embed code and embed the broadcast as a widget within your site or blog page.

8. How do I control the privacy of a broadcast?

When you make a broadcast, you can specify whether you want the broadcast to be visible to everyone or whether you wish to place a password on it. You can even come back later and add a password to a broadcast that has already been distributed. With this very simple mechanism, you can now control access to all content that belongs to you.

9. What is the difference between a broadcast and a file?

A broadcast is the rich content created using Broadcast Studio. Remember that a broadcast is your mix of documents, presentations, images, videos and web pages with your narration. A broadcast is always hosted on faculte.com and is accessed through a link to the broadcast. A file on the other hand is exactly that - a file! Unlike a file, broadcasts are not large attachments and are shared simply as links.

10. What kind of files can I include in my broadcast?

You can include documents, presentations, images (photos that are uploaded as well as photos from Flickr), web pages or videos from web sites like YouTube. You can also just record voice through your microphone or record video through your web cam.

Managing my account and selling broadcasts

1. What is the difference between a Producer and a Viewer account?

A Producer is someone that uses Broadcast Studio to make broadcasts. A Viewer is someone who comes to Faculte to view or purchase broadcasts.

2. How do I become a Producer?

Anyone can create a Viewer account. However, during this phase, we are offering only a limited number of Producer accounts. To become a Producer, first create a Viewer account and login. Then click on the button "Upgrade to Producer account" and either enter the code to upgrade your account (if you already have a code) or click on "Request Code" to ask us to send you a code.

3. What is the difference between a free and a paid broadcast?

The producer of a broadcast can choose to make their broadcasts either free or only available for a fee. If the Producer sets a price for the broadcast, it becomes a paid broadcast. If no price is set, then it becomes a free broadcast.

4. How do I earn money from my broadcasts?

The all important question! Faculte's Broadcast Studio is the easiest way for you to monetize your knowledge. If you want to charge for your broadcast, all you need to do is to tell us some details about your Paypal account. When you make a broadcast, indicate that it is not free and set a price for the broadcast. Then go ahead and distribute the link to the broadcast in your site, blog or newsletter. Viewers who click on that link will need to pay for viewing the broadcast and we will deposit the payments into your Paypal account. It's really that simple.

5. How do I manage my broadcasts and my files?

Once you log into your account at Faculte.com, under "My Desk" you will see an option saying "Broadcasts". Here you can see all of the broadcasts that have been made or have been purchased by you. Each of the broadcasts can be deleted, shared or have its properties changed by you.

Miscellaneous

1. Can I not already make a podcast or record a video using other tools? Why do I need Faculte?

Every tool and technology has its rightful place. You can make a podcast if your purpose is to let users download an audio or video file. If your purpose is creating and editing your own video, then there are plenty of tools for that purpose as well. And of course there is always YouTube if you want to put your video up for free. But what if your purpose is to create a rich piece of content - a piece of content where you are able to seamlessly mix documents, presentations, images and videos with your own narration? What if you want to control that piece of content you have created - either by placing a password on it or by setting a price on it for sale? What if you want to be able to distribute this anywhere merely by embedding the resulting widget anywhere? What if you also want to include live presence along with the broadcast? Well, Faculte is the only way for you to do all of these things. So enjoy Faculte!

2. How does Faculte make money?

Faculte's products are designed primarily for professionals and businesses. We make money in two ways - 1. when an individual professional or businesses purchases a subscription license to the product or 2. From the transaction fee we collect when paid content is sold. That's fair to us and great for you.

3. What's next for Faculte?

You tell us! Seriously, we want you to tell us what you would like to see in our product. We have a long wish list of our own but would love to hear from you.
